Most moments of glory are built upon a long series of plays, each won by committed, determined, bone-jarring blocking and tackling. A winning team is one whose members recognize that when one member of the team is successful, the entire team wins. "

A message from the leader and founder of Adagio Bleu Studios design team:

A house built upon sand falters and crumbles as the changing tide ebbs and flows. A house built upon a solid foundation such as the bedrock of trust, loyalty, and dedication will remain for generations.

This is the foundation upon which Adagio Bleu Studios has been built upon since the beginning:

We always help, enocourage & support each other~whether it's in personal things, business things or just being her to listen about a struggle with a business issue. I am truly blessed to have all of our members and the "institution" of Adagio Bleu in my life. I remember, back in the day, a nay-sayer telling us as we celebrated our FIRST anniversary that most groups crumble once they reached their first birthday as we were turning a year old... well, I'm here to tell them that we are looking at 6 years soon and we are still here, and still the beautiful group of women that we always have been. We may have changed our focus, re-invented ourselves, but the core of ABSD still remains intact, and thank GOD for that.
When Barb Laub (formerly snugglebuglane, now Lola & Clementine) & I first founded Adagio Bleu, we picked the name very carefully~ and we picked each founding member very carefully and that process continues today~ we don't just snap up the first or the "best" or the most desired person, we stick to the way we've always done it..

Some of you may wonder why in the heck we picked the name Adagio (definition) : refers to the major amounts of posturing before a dance, there is a sequence of well-controlled, graceful movements performed as a display of skill before the music even begins...

We wanted to be deliberate with each & every move the group made, and I think that has paid off in a big way. We had one single incident of drama, and back biting and that was 5 years ago. The 2 people responsible were asked to leave immediately, and we continued on uninterupted. The designers whom are part of the Adagio Bleu collective are some of the singlemost talented, phenomenal, amazing group of designers and friends I have. They are LOYAL to the bone and I respect their drive~ their ambition~ their individual-ness inside of the group and what each of them brings to the table as a whole.

Thank you very much for being a supporter, friend, and fan of this independent group of ladies and designers. We are very much appreciative of every drop of love we've received over the last 5 + years.

Welcome to our readers, we'd like to introduce you to our members one at a time. We have gathered some very talented designers within the collective of Adagio Bleu Studios. Let's get to know Carrie of Aprons by Punky Fae! (click on the pictures to visit her Etsy shop at any time)

Q. When did you get started sewing and creating?

I have been sewing most of my life.. My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 6 years ols. I did mostly costumes and doll clothing when I was younger.. In college I did theatrical costumes. For a while I took a break and did Mosaics.. which I LOVE.. I only gave that up after my daughter was born and went back to sewing for her. I didn't start out to build a business.. I just wanted to make my baby girl some fabulous clothing no one else would have.. It was friends and family who pushed me to begin selling the items I made. When Jordan was about 1 my best friend introduced me to the world of Boutique Clothing and I was hooked and have been selling ever since.

Q. When did you start selling your designs/items on etsy?

I started on etsy 5 years ago selling my Mosaics. After I had to move on from that craft I began on etsy with my hair accessories then quickly moved to clothing.

Q: Do you remember the first item you sold on etsy?

The first item I sold on etsy was a Mosaic Bird Bath.. Clothing wise it was a OOAK Christmas Dress.

Q. How did come up with your name, ApronsbyPunkyFae ?

I have had several names on etsy since I began. This shop name was created to exclusively sell my custom and OOAK aprons. I also had another shop that sold my custom clothing. When it got too confusing to run 2 shops I combined the 2 and now sell all of my custom items in 1 shop.

Q. Do you have a favorite item to create?

I love to create OOAK Euro inspired Dresses.

Q.If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?

Id love to learn how to smock.. It was one thing my grandmother never got around to teaching me before she passed away. Id also love to learn to knit.. I can crotchet but I want to knit..

Q. If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?

Ireland

Q: What other things do you enjoy besides designing/creating/sewing?

I love to read.. I am a total bookworm.

Q. When did you get started sewing and creating?

I started sewing when my daughter was 1 1/2. That was over 4 years ago. With the help of ebooks I taught myself to sew.

Q. When did you start selling your designs/items on etsy?
May 2006

Q: Do you remember the first item you sold on etsy?
I believe it was a pillowcase dress.

Q. How did come up with your name, __________(fill in your etsy shop name here) ?
Fluffy*Girl*Boutique started because of my daughter. When she was 1 her pediatrician called her fluffy instead of chubby. I loved the fluffy and thought it was perfect.

Q. Do you have a favorite item to create?
I love creating patchwork twirl skirts or dresses. I love patchwork. Takes longer but I LOVE all the colors and combinations I can come up with.

Q.If you could learn some new skills, what would they be?
I would like to make handbags.

Q. If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?
I have always wanted to visit Australia. Now that I have seen the Winter Olympics I really want to visit Vancouver too.

Q: What other things do you enjoy besides designing/creating/sewing?
I love being with my family. I know some people just say that because they think they are supposed to but I REALLY LOVE my husband and 2 kids. When I get a chance to get out with a friend my husband has to almost push me out the door.
I also love to cook and bake when Im not rushed.

Q: Anything else you would like to add?
I really enjoy designing and sewing. I think its a talent I never would have known without my daughter. She loves my clothes. I love making her happy and seeing the big smile on her face after I have created something. It also makes me happy to mail a custom to a mom who is going to give it to her daughter. Hopefully she will be smiling too.

Other Unique Children's handmade item designers

We are established in the market and are seeking members who list often on Etsy, have a mind for business and wish to grow their sales through the Etsy venue. Some requirements are an established following, boutique quality photographs & presentation, knowledge of how to cross-promote & help others in the group out. Another important requirement is the ability to be involved in team decisions, discussions & input on our discussion board on a regular basis (at least 1-2 times a week).

This is one of two of one of our designers, TipTopApplesauce's hats that were shown on a 2009 episode of TLC's "A Baby Story". (A big thanks to EMAphotography and Pure7Studios for the sweet pictures of this two-color Elf Hat.)

The pictures show a few of the many color combinations possible. Your hat will be custom made for you in two colors. She has white, cream, yellow, pink, and blue yarn--plus others--please convo her for other color availability.

The yarn is a cotton blend and very soft and appropriate for a sensitive newborn's skin. Pick one color for the main body of the hat (shown in white in the photo) and one color for the ball and brim (shown in light blue in the photo).

She can also make this hat for older kids or adults BUT please convo her first for a special listing for an adjusted price for the larger hat.

CPSC Grants One Year Stay of Testing and Certification Requirements for Certain Products

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission voted unanimously (2-0) to issue a one year stay of enforcement for certain testing and certification requirements for manufacturers and importers of regulated products, including products intended for children 12 years old and younger. These requirements are part of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA), which added certification and testing requirements for all products subject to CPSC standards or bans.

Significant to makers of children’s products, the vote by the Commission provides limited relief from the testing and certification requirements which go into effect on February 10, 2009 for new total lead content limits (600 ppm), phthalates limits for certain products (1000 ppm), and mandatory toy standards, among other things. Manufacturers and importers – large and small – of children’s products will not need to test or certify to these new requirements, but will need to meet the lead and phthalates limits, mandatory toy standards and other requirements.

The decision by the Commission gives the staff more time to finalize four proposed rules which could relieve certain materials and products from lead testing and to issue more guidance on when testing is required and how it is to be conducted.

The stay will remain in effect until February 10, 2010, at which time a Commission vote will be taken to terminate the stay.

The stay does not apply to:

Four requirements for third-party testing and certification of certain children’s products subject to:
- The ban on lead in paint and other surface coatings effective for products made after December 21, 2008;
- The standards for full-size and non full-size cribs and pacifiers effective for products made after January 20, 2009;
- The ban on small parts effective for products made after February 15, 2009; and
- The limits on lead content of metal components of children’s jewelry effective for products made after March 23, 2009.
Certification requirements applicable to ATV’s manufactured after April 13, 2009.
Pre-CPSIA testing and certification requirements, including for: automatic residential garage door openers, bike helmets, candles with metal core wicks, lawnmowers, lighters, mattresses, and swimming pool slides; and
Pool drain cover requirements of the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool & Spa Safety Act.

The stay of enforcement provides some temporary, limited relief to the crafters, children’s garment manufacturers and toy makers who had been subject to the testing and certification required under the CPSIA. These businesses will not need to issue certificates based on testing of their products until additional decisions are issued by the Commission. However, all businesses, including, but not limited to, handmade toy and apparel makers, crafters and home-based small businesses, must still be sure that their products conform to all safety standards and similar requirements, including the lead and phthalates provisions of the CPSIA.

Handmade garment makers are cautioned to know whether the zippers, buttons and other fasteners they are using contain lead. Likewise, handmade toy manufacturers need to know whether their products, if using plastic or soft flexible vinyl, contain phthalates.

The stay of enforcement on testing and certification does not address thrift and second hand stores and small retailers because they are not required to test and certify products under the CPSIA. The products they sell, including those in inventory on February 10, 2009, must not contain more than 600 ppm lead in any accessible part. The Commission is aware that it is difficult to know whether a product meets the lead standard without testing and has issued guidance for these companies that can be found on our web site.

The Commission trusts that State Attorneys General will respect the Commission's judgment that it is necessary to stay certain testing and certification requirements and will focus their own enforcement efforts on other provisions of the law, e.g. the sale of recalled products.

Adagio Bleu Studios Designers have been part of an official Etsy Street Team for nearly a year. We are expanding our team and are seeking professional minded designers with a focus on children's clothing/accessories/room decor as well as clothing/accessories for Moms.

Name: ABSD (Adagio Bleu Studios Designers)

Profile: An innovative collective of indie designers specializing in handmade items for children and Moms. We concentrate on rising above the crowd with fresh new designs and top quality workmanship. Team activities include sales/promotions and contests. We are seeking new members for our team with a focus on childrens clothing, accessories and room decor as well as Mom-friendly items and accessories. We are a professional minded group of ladies who come together to share support to grow our businesses as well as friendships.

What we do & why:

* a team of designers & sellers are more visible than an individual going it alone

* Gather designers of similar things together to become a niche in the market (our niche is childrens handmade couture, accessories & things for the moms who love them)

* learn from each other on how to use the etsy forums, events, and etsy tools to our advantage
